Another invitation to Fire Fighters....
World Police and Fire Games, New York 2011.
Andy Mabbet, HM Prison Service has sent the following invitation to the FSSAA;
"You may be aware that the World Police & Fire games take place next year in New York, although I am a member of HM Prison Service my organisation has taken part in these game for many years. Most recently we have taken part the ice Hockey tournament but have had to combine our team with non GB teams in order to enter, it would be great if we could enter a team solely from the services in GB, as a result I am contacting the fire service and police sports organisations to see if there would be any interest, we already have 7 players who want to travel but in would be great to take 16.
I wondered if you will be able to help, do you know of or have an ice hockey section, or the possible contact name that I could use to pass on all relevant information, the Prison Service Sports Association have already organised flights, accomadation and transfers in NY so there is no organisation required."
For further detail please email Andy Mabbet or click on the image to download the poster.

This agreement means that the FSSAA (through all sporting Sections) will receive £100,000 worth of sports clothing and goods, in addition to this, there is a special Prostar website being launched from which all Fire Service staff can benefit.
The discount website can be accessed by clicking on the Prostar logo/hyperlink located on the left hand sidebar of this website. When you click on this link and follow the simple login process* all Fire Service staff will be able to purchase Prostar goods with a 25% discount on normal retail prices.
This agreement, which was launched on the same day as the re-launch of the Women’s Rugby Section, does not restrict staff to personal purchases. The agreement allows discounted goods to be purchased for family, friends and sports clubs.

FSSAA Sports Personality of the Year 2009 - Firefighter Janine Culley.

Janine becomes only the second woman to win this prestigious award and she is also the first in the award’s history to be presented with a trophy which has been donated by The Worshipful Company of Firefighters.
The Chair of the FSSAA, Andy Fry, presented Janine with the award for her record 24 medal haul at last year’s World Firefighter Games held in Liverpool. The former swimming coach won the majority of her medals in the pool in what was a home coming performance by the Liverpudlian.
Janine joined the London Fire Brigade in 2002 and wants to be a role model for women thinking about becoming a firefighter. She said; “I am very honoured to become ‘sports personality’ and I hope that this will reinforce that being a firefighter isn’t only a job for men – women are fit enough and strong enough too.”
The Chelsea firefighter is also a mum to a two year old girl and benefits from having a great work life balance. Janine added; “This achievement highlights that it is possible to be a mother, have a fulfilling career and maintain an excellent level of fitness. Being a firefighter allows me to do all of these things. I love my job, which not everyone can say.”
She is now trying to gain sponsorship for her next challenge of swimming across the channel. Janine said; “It has been a long time ambition of mine to swim the channel.”
Chair Andy Fry said; "I am delighted to have appointed Janine as the Association's Sports Personality of the Year. She is a great example of what can be achieved by carefully balancing professional and family commitments whilst, at the same time, remaining dedicated to achieving sporting excellence. Janine's energy and enthusiasm are infectious and I'm really looking forward to supporting her as an ambassador for sport in the fire service. Amongst other things I'd like Janine to champion a challenge that the Association will be issuing to find the healthiest fire station in the UK."
Deputy Commissioner Roy Bishop, who also attended the presentation, said: “I would like to congratulate Janine and also the London Fire Brigade’s welfare fund who supported London’s staff that participated in the World Firefighter.”
